Preview: All Wales Pole Championships
Brand new for this year, this Wales-wide competition promises to be a spectacular event. Don't miss out -- get your tickets now for 9th April!
The All Wales Pole Championships (AWPC) will be held April 9th in the picturesque town of Llandudno, along the beautiful North Wales coast. It will be the first time the whole of Wales has had an opportunity to compete against each other, and will see schools from North and South, at all levels, competing for the welsh title.
The AWPC has developed from last year’s North Wales Pole Competition, a pole competition that was aimed to all individuals residing in North Wales. This competition was a huge success thanks to all involved: sponsors, judges and performers all pulled together to make a fantastic memorable event. After receiving such positive feedback the natural progression was to open the competition up to the whole of Wales… the AWPC was born!
The AWPC is unique as it is the first official competition to use the PDC syllabus within the grading and criteria of each level. By examining the syllabus entrants are able to accurately decide on the appropriate level at which to enter, and can chose which moves/tricks they would like to demonstrate within their performance. This means that all entrants have the freedom to choreograph routines using their individual style, while performing the moves/tricks they favour.
The aim of the AWPC is to host an all Welsh pole event that demonstrates pole dance in a positive light. With strict rules on explicit or erotic dancing we have opened the doors to under 18’s, inviting all ages to come and watch the art that is pole dancing. Indeed we also have a 16 year old competitor who will make her pole debut, and feel that it is time younger individual’s were able to demonstrate their pole ability.
We have 3 fabulous judges this year: Annie Norris, Sam Remmer and Karen Chaundy. Each of these lovely ladies has a vast amount of experience in the pole field, as competitors, judges, instructors and performers. We feel extremely privileged to have their support, and send a huge thanks to each of them for sharing their time and experience with us. We also have multi-title holder Sally-Ann Giles acting as adjudicator, and we are all looking forward to watching each of our title holders give a special performance on the pole; what a treat for everyone present! We also send out a special message to Mrs Stacey Sneddon, who will be missed immensely this year, we wish you all the very best with your little bundle of joy when he arrives, and we hope you can rejoin us as our head judge in 2012.
We have some fantastic sponsors this year and send a huge thankyou to each of them for their generous contributions to our event; these include X-Pole, Mighty Grip, Pole2Pole Magazine, Noodlenogs, UK Amateur Pole Performer, The British Isles Pole Dance Championships, Roy-Barry Photography & Pagan’s Pole.
The show will start with a bang as Turkish Break-dancing champion Serkan Aydemir (AKA Sergi) hits the stage with a local street dancing school. We also have the fabulous Dolly Minxture acting as compare. There are no words to describe Dolly, and we fear she may steal the show with her good looks and bad humour!
Tickets are a bargain at only £10 each (£15 for VIP), and £1 from each ticket sold will go towards our chosen charity: Rape Crises England and Wales, Charity Number 1119680. We also have an award with a difference: the people’s choice award. This means that the audience get to pick their winner by ballot voting, and is completely separate from the judge’s decisions. It is £1 per vote and again this money will go towards our charity. We hope each audience member will support our charity by voting for their favourite competitor of the night. Ticket holders are also welcome (free of charge) to our after party in Fountains Bar, a short distance from the competition venue. Unfortunately as this is a bar environment children will not be permitted to attend.
Tickets are available from as little as £10 each and can be booked through our website.
We hope to see you all at The first ever All Wales Pole Championships!!
